The Churburg

The Churburg in the village Sluderno is the loveliest castle of Venosta valley in South Tyrol. Today's visitor finds an impressive Renaissance castle, enhanced by the remarkable paintings in the arcades surrounding the courtyard.

The world renowned armoury contains the largest collection of its kind. The weapons and harnesses, all made for members of the family, are of incomparable artistic and historic value. Many precious objects are to be seen in the Romanic chapel of the castle, in the Matscher chamber and other splendid rooms.

World of chivalry in the Churburg Castle. Children and adults alike are enthralled by the castle's unique armoury with its heavy iron wardrobe, lances, maces, flails and crossbows.

The Churburg is located above Sluderno, in Venosta valley, between Merano and Passo Resia, with a wonderful view of the Ortler mountain, towers one of the mightest and best preserved castles of South Tyrol.

This valiant castle was built in 1253 by the Bishops of Chur, was then taken over by the bailiffs of Matsch and has been in the hands of the Counts Trapp since 1504.
