The geographic centre of Val Gardena, S. Cristina (1,428 m), is on the sunny side of the valley, protected by the Sassolungo - Langkofel rock.
It's the ideal starting point for excursions along the extensive network of trails in the nature park Puez-Odle and at the foot of the Sassolungo and the Sassopiatto.
During the summer, the flowering meadows and Alpine greens of the nature parks Puez-Odle and Sciliar-Catinaccio present you all you need for easy and more challenging hiking tours.
The Gherdeina Museum (Gherdëina Local Heritage Museum) in the centre of Ortisei constitutes one of the major museums of the Ladin valleys. It exhibits valuable collections related to the cultural and natural history of Val Gardena.
With its direct access to the Sellaronda, the Val Gardena Ronda and the Dolomiti Superski circuit, as well as the cross-country ski centre Monte Pana, S. Cristina is a very popular winter sport resort.
