Senales valley in South Tyrol, a unique mountain experience. Senales valley, the beautiful skiing area in the heart of the South Tyrolean Alps not far from Merano (35 km) and Naturno (15 km) guarantees snow all year round.

Certosa, Vernago, Madonna di Senales, Monte S. Caterina and Maso Corto. Each village has its own past. Maso Corto is the highest village (2000 m).

The Senales valley is a real inside tip also during summer month's. Skiing fun on the glacier and fascinating hiking tours with panoramic view on the amazing alpine scenery: the perfect vacation for passsionate mountain aficionados as well as for families.

Mountain excursions, hiking and climbing tours (Marchegg climbing centre). Numerous pleasant and demanding hiking tours of all degrees of difficulty starting from Maso Corto.

The mountain restaurant Grawand (3251 m), the alpine refugees Schöne Aussicht (2842 m) and Almdiele Lazaun (2430 m) offer food and rest.

Summer skiing is a truly special experience but not the only summer highlight. In fact, the Senales valley offers its visitors a huge variety of activities.

Whether hiking or horse riding, the high-alpine landscape is a real paradise and invites to discover its flora and fauna.

Mountain bike: a ride on comfortable paths or one of demanding pasture tours, tennis, skate park, basketball, beach volley, archery.

Here is the place were "Ötzi", the famous mummified 5000 year-old man, was found in a glacier on the Similaun mountain high above the Senales valley.

The highest of South Tyrol's cable cars whisks visitors comfortably to 3,200 meters of altitude in just six minutes.

Alpin Arena Senales valley Ski Resort

At 3,200 m the real winter sports enthusiasts begin to measure up in the Alpin Arena Senales Ski Resort. Large ski slopes, well-maintained cross-country trails and a challenging toboggan run transform the skiing area into a meeting point for all snow-lovers and sun-seekers.

Maso Corto is the starting point of numerous pleasant and demanding hiking tours of all degrees of difficulty. The mountain restaurant "Gravand" as well as the alpine refugees "Schöne Aussicht" and "Alpin Lazaun" offer food and rest.

Car park next to the little church, hike around the lake. Perfect for families, two rope bridges. Duration approx. 2 hours.

ArcheoParc

Life in Ötzi's times, in the ArcheoParc, in the Senales valley. The Iceman is in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano. Baking bread, archery, moulding pottery, working flint and leather in the museum and open air exhibition we can discover the essential skills which Ötzi and his Neolithic contemporaries needed to survive in the New Stone Age.

The Monastery of Certosa

Behind Monte Santa Caterina in Senales valley there appears a Carthusian Monastery: this is the Allerengelberg, built in 1326. The impressive building has an eventful history, playing host to times of religious seclusion and also of secular activity. A visit to the grotto and the parish church of St. Anna are recommended.

Unique in the Alps: the sheep round-up

The spectacular sheep round-up is a traditional event. By the mid of June up to 3,500 sheep of the Senales valley are driven up over the Hochjoch to the Venter valley. In the middle of September, when the grazin season is over, the flock is brought back home - an event with the qualities of a local festival.
